Undergraduate students comprise the greatest number of college students out there and as such there are numerous financial aid programs available to meet their varied needs. Grants can be one way for undergraduate students from all backgrounds and majors to get a little help in paying their tuition. If students know where to look, they can make their college experience a much less financially daunting one and have more time to concentrate on enjoying their time in school.

Undergraduate students who can demonstrate financial need will qualify for many of the grants that are out there, as helping students who are from low-income and underprivileged families is a major goal of many grant programs. Academic competitiveness is also encouraged and students who excel in their studies will have a much easier time funding federal and private funding.

One of the largest providers of undergraduate grants is the federal government. Its Pell Grant program serves thousands of students who would not otherwise be able to attend college. In addition to this program, there is an Academic Competitiveness Grant and the National SMRT Grant. These encourage students to do well in their studies and to pursue fields like math, science and technology. Additional grant funds on top of Pell Grants can be awarded with these.

Students may also be able to fund their educations through grant programs administered by the college or university they are attending. These programs provide special support for students of minority groups, women and those with disabilities. Special awards may also be available to students who are pursuing a particular field of study like engineering, science, nursing or accounting.
