Find Athletic College Grants
Good grades and community leadership are two great ways to get money for college, but they aren’t the only way that students can get funding. Those who stand out in their sport of choice may be able to take advantage of their physical skills on the field or court and turn them into a generous college grant from a university or organization. For students who are especially talented, this can be a great way to get a college education while getting to play a sport they love.
In some cases, all a student will need to do to qualify for an athletic grant is to perform well in their sport. Some programs, however, are more strict and want students to maintain minimum GPAs and to perform as well academically as they do in their athletics. A majority of programs will require that students are well-rounded to ensure that they are getting the most out of the time that they spend in college.
While the majority of funding from colleges and universities goes to big sports like basketball, football and baseball, grants can provide additional funding for students who excel at sports that may be less popular with direct school funding. For those interested in playing tennis in college or professionally, there are several grants available including a handsome sum from the United States Tennis Association. These students will get to boost their tennis skills while getting a break on high educational costs.
There are also funds available for more non-traditional sports as well. Students who stand out in bowling can win awards to put towards college through the United States Bowling Congress. Those who are avid horseback riders and who compete in equestrian events can also win cash based on their skills and their membership with the American Morgan Horse Association.
