A mother’s work is never done and that’s doubly true for women who are attempting to raise children on their own and get a college education. Many single mothers feel that they don’t have the time or money to get the education they need and deserve, but that doesn’t have to be the case. There are numerous programs in place that can help mothers going it alone to get some assistance, and many grants will cover a large portion of school costs leaving more money for childcare and personal expenses.

Women’s Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) is another major source of college funding for single mothers. These grants are dedicated to women who have been the victims of spousal abuse and who now need financial help in rebuilding a new life for themselves and their children. Private sources of funding are also available, especially to women who are entering a male dominated field like engineering or the sciences.
