Find Arts College Grants
With so many talented painters, designers, dancers and filmmakers out there competition for art grants can be stiff. Students can help increase their chances of getting funding by learning about and applying for as many grants as they qualify for. These grants can help pay for your educational expenses, supplies and more, leaving you with more time to concentrate on your creative endeavors instead.
A majority of college grants for undergraduate and graduate students will be based primarily on the work the student produces through a portfolio, single work or a show. Students will be required to showcase their creative skills and will often have to prepare artist’s statements and be able to tell donors what the funding will be used for. Students can use grants as an opportunity to fund big projects for graduate study or to just cover small expenses for undergraduate class assignments.
A large number of grants are available right through the federal government with the National Endowment for the Arts. This group gives out awards in varying amounts to students who create arts of all kinds. Both undergraduate and graduate students can apply for awards through the endowment and grants are usually given out to those who show great potential through their success or through works the student presents in a portfolio.
If you can’t get funding through the government, there are other options. Some universities offer students grants directly through their own programs, especially for higher level research, study and work. From time to time, scholarships will also be available from others within the arts community as well. Well-known artists, dancers, sculptors and filmmakers may create funds which dole out scholarships and grants to students who show great potential.
