Those willing to put their own lives on the line for the protection and service of their country not only get respect from their position but also the chance to get some assistance in pursuing a college education that can help them in their military careers or after their service is over. There are a wide variety of tuition assistance programs available to members of the military, whether they’re in the Army, Navy or any other branch of service.

What scholarships are available to students depends on the branch of the military with which they are enlisted, but all should be eligible for some sort of tuition assistance regardless of the major the student wishes to pursue. There is also the Montgomery G.I. Bill, which provides both currently active and veteran students with the chance to get funding for degree programs and practical training for up to ten years after they leave service. The program covers classes taken at colleges, vocational courses, correspondence courses, apprenticeships and non-private pilot training programs.

Those looking to pursue careers in a health related field can take advantage of the US Army Health Professions Scholarship Program which will pay some of their medical school expenses in exchange for service as an Army medic. Numerous other programs are offered through the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines, the Coast Guard, ROTC and much more to help cover a variety of college expenses and degree programs.

Current military servicemen and women aren’t the only ones eligible for scholarships, as there are several programs set up that dole out funds to the sons and daughters of veterans and active members. These include awards like the National Scholarship Awards Program DUSA Scholarship among many others. Spouses of active members can also get a little help with programs like the Air Force’s Air Space Education Foundation Spouse Scholarship.
