Abilene Christian University wants to create a place where students can work towards meeting their own educational goals while participating actively in their communities and gaining the skills to become better Christian leaders throughout the world. Students will be given a firm academic foundation in general education as well as deepening their spiritual commitments. The school tries to implement new technologies and innovative teaching strategies to produce graduates that lead rewarding and Christ-centered lives.
A.B. Barrett and Charles Roberson founded the school back in 1906 as a primary and secondary school institution that was originally known as the Childers Classical Institute. The school has been known by its present name since 1912, and in the intervening years since then has grown and now provides a wide variety of degree programs to thousands of students on campus and off. The main campus and headquarters of the school is in Abilene, Texas, though students are now able to take courses online as well.
Christian students will perhaps be best served by the programs at Abilene Christian College, as the school is well-known for it’s Christian-based approach to education. Students will not only get access to a spiritually and intellectually enlightening education, but to a variety of social programs and fun extracurricular events as well. Students can engage in social clubs that concentrate on service to the local and neighboring communities as well as embracing their sillier sides in the yearly Sing Song satirical presentation which raises funds for the school.
Online programs at ACU offer students a variety of degree programs that are specially catered to the needs of busy working professionals. Students are able to log on and access class information at any time and will get their course materials through online discussion, lectures and interaction with qualified faculty. Both graduate and undergraduate degrees are available online, and students can advance or start new careers in fields like Education, Conflict Resolution and Organizational Development.
