American InterContinental University wants to provide its diverse student body with the tools, resources and quality educational foundation they need to go on to achieve success in their personal, professional and academic endeavors. The university wants to provide an environment where inquiry and creativity are encouraged and students can interact positively with faculty and staff. It hopes that graduates will emerge from the programs with a lifelong love of learning and the ethical values that will enable them to perform as competent and globally minded citizens.

The school started out being called the American College of Applied Arts when it first opened its doors in 1977. At first, the school specialized in textile designs both in fashion and interior design, but as it grew so did its offerings. Today the school offers students the chance to work towards a wide variety of degrees in many majors. The school has campuses in California, Florida, Texas and Georgia, as well as international programs in London and Dubai. Students enrolled in online programs will take their courses through the school’s headquarters in Illinois.

Many colleges are geared towards younger, nonworking students, and this can sometimes make adult students feel like their needs are not being met. This is not the case at AIU. Programs are designed to meet the needs of busy professionals, even those who may not have previously had access to educational opportunities. The school operates on open-enrollment, meaning nearly all students who apply will be accepted and allowed to pursue education and personal advancement.

Classes through the distance learning programs at AIU are taken entirely online. Faculty will provide students with the necessary lectures and study materials which students will complete when it’s most convenient for them. Discussion boards and chat rooms are available to allow students to converse with their classmates and faculty on questions or concerns with the material. Degree programs are available at all levels from the Associate’s to the Master’s allowing students to start or advance in careers. Majors include Business, Human Resources, Marketing, Management, Finance and more.
