Students of the Animal Behavior College will get access to high quality animal training programs that give them the fundamentals through online courses as well as career-oriented hands-on experience. Programs are designed to give students the skills they’ll need to work as proficient, caring and successful animal trainers as well as giving them the chance to network with many other animal trainers to allow them to make important industry connections.
In 1998, Steven Appelbaum, former president of Animal Behavior & Training Associates, founded the college as a means to provide distance education opportunities for those who love and want to work with animals. Through the programs offered by the school, students will read about animal psychology and work with mentors at over 400 locations to get the training they need.
There are many things to consider when working with animals, and students will learn about a wide variety of them through their courses with ABC. Many of the courses are geared towards dog training and obedience, but there are others offered that can help students to work with many other types of animals. Students will learn how to work safely with these animals, give them cues and train them while gaining business skills in other classes about self-promotion and public speaking.
An advantage of distance learning is that students will be able to work at their own pace and often from their own homes, making it easier than on-campus courses to get valuable educational skills. The faculty and staff of the school are experienced animal trainers themselves and will be able to help students with any questions and concerns they might have. Some programs with the school only take 40 weeks to complete, allowing students to quickly begin working, and students will have a program manager with them along the way to make sure they stay on track.
