The mission of Ashford University is to provide learning opportunities and degree programs to a diverse group of students that are not only of high quality but that are also highly accessible, innovative and affordable. Through its programs, the school hopes to foster intellectual and personal growth, create a diverse student body, promote effective and responsible leadership and instill a lifelong love of learning.

Ashford University was founded in 1918 in Clinton, Iowa, and was originally called the Mount St. Clare College. In 2005, the school became part of the Bridgeport Education Inc. group and changed its name to Ashford University. Today, students can take classes both online and on campus, and all programs are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Students can obtain degrees at the Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
