Cleveland Institute of Electronics strives to give students the resources to help them become skilled professionals in their fields and will help shape the future of the technical and engineering industries. Through flexible learning options that allow students access to classes from a wide variety of locations, the school hopes to allow students to gain these necessary academic and professional skills without forcing them to give up personal and professional commitments.

The CIE was founded in 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Smith Practical Radio Institute. As technology has moved forward, so has the institute. Since its beginnings, the school has added many more training and specialty areas to its programs to help students learn what they need to work in high-tech businesses around the globe. The school is primarily focused on degree and certification programs in technology- and engineering-related fields, but there is an affiliated school, the World College, which can offer students more diverse course offerings.

Distance learning has long been a part of the educational opportunities provided by the Cleveland Institute of Electronics. Even as early as 1969, the school was developing lab work and equipment that could be completed in the comfort of students’ own homes. Today this technology has come a long way, and students can learn via the Internet the same way they would in the classroom. The school does everything it can to make sure these learning opportunities are available to everyone, no matter what kind of background they come from.

Online classes at CIE offer students the chance to work with qualified professors, get access to a full time support staff and chat with other students from all over the world. Degree programs are available at the Associate’s level in fields like Electronic Engineering and IT and Systems Management, or students can take individual classes online that suit their personal interests and career goals.
