Columbia Southern University is committed to helping working adults achieve their goals by providing them with educational resources that are flexible and varied. Students at CSU will have access to faculty, resources and technology that are geared towards nontraditional learners. The school understands the needs of nontraditional learners and seeks to meet them while encouraging constant innovation and positive change both within the university and in the community.

While maintaining a headquarters in Orange Beach, Alabama, Columbia Southern University specializes in distance education. The school works with other universities in Alabama and western Florida to create innovative and beneficial online programs for students from all over. The school was started in 1993 by Dr. Robert G. Mayes, who wanted to start an environmental sciences institution. The school offers a much wider range of degrees today and caters to a much large group of students.

Because it is entirely online, CSU wants to stay on the cutting edge of the latest technologies and degree programs to make taking courses easier and more rewarding for students. Currently, it is part of the very small group of schools to offer doctorates in Business Administration, allowing students to get a career edge or pursue rewarding teaching careers. Additionally, the school works with business partners like Delta Airlines and Boeing as well as many local fire and police departments to provide students with co-ops and career opportunities after graduation.

As an online school, students will be able to take courses at CSU without completely changing around their lifestyles and career demands. Students can watch lectures and work on projects at any time of the day or night simply by logging in to the online platform. Online degrees are available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and allow students to work towards degrees in fields like Business Administration, Fire Science, Marketing, Hospitality and much more.
