George Washing University is an historical elite university that provides a host of academic, research and self development opportunities for a diverse student population. George Washington University, or GW, was founded in 1821 in Washington, D.C., as The Columbian College. In 1904 the school became known as George Washington University, in honor of the first president of the United States. The school is located in the old First Ward of Washington, D.C., affording students countless opportunities for social, political, religious, cultural, professional and service involvement in the community.

The school offers a number of academic programs, including undergraduate, graduate, summer and international programs. Students can take classes in the College of Professional Studies, Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Elliott School of International Affairs, Graduate School of Education and Human Development, Law School, and the Schools of Business, Engineering and Applied Science, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Public Health and Health Services. Programs range from Business Administration to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering to International Policy and Practice to Art History and many, many more. Many of these programs also offer opportunities for students specialize in a certain area, allowing them to immerse themselves in a customized program.

Students are invited to contribute to research projects at GW even at the undergraduate level. These research opportunities help shape students’ academic and professional training, as well as help impact the greater community through innovative breakthroughs in science, health, economics, politics, education and human development, and more.
