Iowa Central Community College was established in 1966 when three local junior colleges — Fort Dodge, Webster City and Eagle Grove — were consolidated. Iowa Central now serves nine counties across the state, including Buena Vista, Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright counties. In 1971, the Storm Lake Center was organized to serve 12 more public and private school systems in the area, and it now offers many community college programs as well as career education programs. Since 1975, students have been able to earn Bachelor’s degrees by attending night classes through a partnership with Iowa Central and Buena Vista College.

The Virtual Class, or vClass, system features transmitted courses that students can watch live.
