Marylhurst University is a private Catholic liberal arts university organized to serve promising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. At Marylhurst University, students will find carefully designed academic programs that inspire scholastic excellence, as well as the responsible understanding and application of a solid value system. The school strives to reward hard working students with the resources and experiences they need to benefit society and become professional, social leaders who have respect for people all over the world.

Marylhurst University was founded by the Sisters of the Holy Names and is Oregon’s oldest Catholic university. The Sisters came to Oregon in 1859 and began the school in 1893. Marylhurst was the first liberal arts college for women in the American Northwest. In 1908, the school moved from its Portland campus to a plot of land between Lake Oswego and West Linn, which they named Marylhurst, or “Mary’s Woods.” In 1974, the school began admitting male students. Since then, Marylhurst University continued to expand, building new facilities and adding new, innovative programs, including the country’s first ever Master of Art Therapy program. The school is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and enrolls over 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students.

Marylhurst University offers a full range of academic programs serving students of all backgrounds, situations and levels. Programs are divided into areas of study like Cultural and Historical Studies; English Literature and Writing; Business Administration; Real Estate Studies; Religious Studies; Music; Business and Leadership; Art and Interior Design; Interdisciplinary Studies and others. Marylhurst also offers several programs online, including a Certificate in Public Relations, a Certificate in Real Estate Studies, an MBA, and four undergraduate programs.

Outside the classroom, Marylhurst University provides students with many different resources, services and activities. From the Math Resource Center to student housing to technology resources to campus ministry, students remain active on and off the Marylhurst campus.
