Mountain State University aims to be a comprehensive community that provides students with everything they need to prepare for satisfying careers in leading industries. The school offers over 75 degrees, including undergraduate and graduate programs, which are available on campus and online. Mountain State University also features small class sizes and career-focused instruction so that students can enter the workforce fully prepared to communicate and collaborate in an educated, professional manner.
Mountain State University was established in 1933 and is located in Beckley, WV, just 50 miles south of Charleston. The school started out as a junior college that aimed to provide quality education to members of the community during the Great Depression. In the 1990s, Mountain State evolved into a four-year college that ultimately began to offer graduate programs as well. Students now attend the private school to take advantage of a variety of programs that are relevant to the demands of today’s marketplace. Additional locations are found in Martinsburg, WV, Orlando, FL, Center Township, PA, and Hickory, NC.
Undergraduate programs at Mountain State University are diverse. Majors include Aviation, Computer Science and Information Technology, Elementary Teacher Preparation, Nursing, Justice Studies, Environmental Studies, Office Administration, Wildlife Management, Respiratory Care and others. Currently, MSU offers six Master’s programs and two certificate programs in areas like Health Science, Nursing, Criminal Justice and Strategic Leadership.
Mountain State University sponsors a variety of nontraditional and distance learning opportunities to accommodate students with busy personal and professional lives. Through independent study, online courses, military transfer credits, and continuing education options, MSU makes it possible for students from all backgrounds to increase their professional development and academic experiences.
Student life at MSU incorporates spiritual, athletic, social, cultural and service organizations. From intercollegiate athletics to honors organizations to the International Student Organization, students are encouraged to become involved in the greater campus community and in off campus communities.
