New England Culinary Institute gives students the skills and experience they need to develop successful careers in the culinary and hospitality industries. The programs at New England Culinary Institute are based on experiential learning, and through in-class training and paid internships, students get to learn from Master Chefs. The school offers programs that reflect the ever changing nature of the culinary arts, giving students relevant skills for their contemporary customers.
New England Culinary Institute was founded in 1980 and has grown from serving seven students to 500. Students from all backgrounds and age groups become apprentices at the New England Culinary Institute and participate in one of eight different programs on two different campuses. The first campus is in Montpelier, VT, and features a free standing restaurant, as well as an environment that teaches the general operations in the retail and non-commercial industries. The other campus is located in Essex, VT, and gives students the experience of working at a Four Diamond culinary resort and inn. The school employs over eighty faculty members, who teach in 13 different production kitchens that reflect the work environments of restaurants, corporate dining rooms, bakeries and more.
Students at the New England Culinary Institute can earn a Certificate in Pastry, Baking, or Basic Cooking; an Associate’s degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Management, Culinary Arts, or Baking and Pastry Arts; a Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Restaurant Management, or an online Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. These careers allow students to focus on a specific industry and customize their education to their personal career goals.
All students at NECI participate in at least one paid internship. Past students have worked at places like the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Resort in Half Moon Bay, CA, Blackbird Chicago, Ritz Carlton Hotel Naples, FL, Finale Boston, Four Seasons Hotel Jackson Hole, WY, Per Se, NY, Rio Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, Savoy New York and more.
