Northeastern University is a private research industry that is a leader in designing innovative teaching methods that bring together interdisciplinary education and experiential learning. Nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report, Northeastern University considers its cooperative education program one of the key influences in student performance and achievement. By offering a range of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as many different research opportunities which engage students and the outside community, Northeastern University is committed to students’ lifelong learning.

Northeastern University was founded in 1898 in Boston as a parochial university that educated immigrants and first-generation Americans. Established by the YMCA, Northeastern University was first organized as the Evening Institute for Young Men. Two years later, a law school was founded, followed by other new programs and departments. Today, Northeastern University is the largest private national research university located in Boston proper. By upholding its mission to provide experiential learning opportunities and inspire interdisciplinary and translational research collaborations, Northeastern also proves its commitment to student’s creative expression, campus involvement with its urban and global community.

There are six undergraduate and eight graduate schools at Northeastern University, plus two part-time programs for nontraditional students. Undergraduate majors are offered in the Bouve College of Health Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Computer and Information Science, College of Criminal Justice, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Sciences. Other academic programs, including graduate studies, are offered through the School of Law, School of Professional and Continuing Studies, School of Education and School of Technological Entrepreneurship.

In addition to traditional academic programs, Northeastern University supports twenty seven interdisciplinary research institutes that impact the greater community in areas including Biology, Engineering, Health Issues, Law, Urban Affairs, Public Policy and Software and Technology. These programs encourage collaboration between students, staff, faculty, and members of the Boston and international community, strengthening Northeastern’s pledge to lifelong learning and partnerships.
